Day by day program

Sunday: Arrival at Grønolen Moutain farm, 5 km from Beitostølen. Delicious dinner, coffee and dessert. After dinner, we talk about the program and give tips and advice for the trips.

Monday: Mjellknapp, 1678 m
We cross the Slettefjellet mountain plateau and can enjoy great views during the drive: At first towards Torfinnstindane and Jotunheimen and later towards Lake Vangsmjøsa and the Grindane massif in Vang. We park the car near Nefstadstølen at the Herredalen road and start the ascend of Mjellknapp – one of the summits on the Vennisfjell massif. It is not the highest point of the massif but probably the one with the best view. On the return we take a detour via the cliff edge towards Tjørobotten. Here we enjoy the panoramic view towards the twinkling Lake Slidrefjorden, surrounded by farms and green fields, as well as other Valdres mountains.
4-5 hours, 3 boots

Tuesday: Heimdalshøe, 1843 m.
We drive across the Valdresflya plateau to Maurvangen. From here we walk steadily, but not too steep, uphill. To begin with we follow the DNT track, then we cross the Brurskardbekken stream and continue up the Mollflyhalsen ridge till approximately 1600 m.a.sl. From here we enjoy gorgeous views towards Jotunheimen. The summit itself lies in the middle of a widespread plateau and doesn’t offer quite the view we enjoyed on the way up. 5-6 hours , 3 boots

Wednesday: Synshorn followed by lunch at the mountain pasture.
From the mountain summer farm Hålistølen we follow a sandy moraine towards Heimre Fagerdalen. It’s a little steep in the beginning, bringing up the heartbeat. We counter this with short breaks, enjoying a view of the historic M/B Bitihorn sailing towards Eidsbugarden. Eventually we reach the summit and enjoy splendid views towards Lake Bygdin with peaks such as Falketind and Uranistind in the distance. In the opposite direction we have great overviews of Lake Vinstervann and towards our mountain pasture. We continue towards Fagerdalshøe before we descend towards Fagerdalstjern, using the so called “Track of the Germans”. We then walk along the Rjupetjedn lake before we arrive at our summer mountain farm, where we are treated with a traditional dish of sour cream porridge and cured meat. The rest of the day is at your own disposal.
3-4 hours, 2 boots.

Thursday: “Jo-stigen” near lake Gjende
Once again we drive across the Valdresflya plateau to Gjendesheim. Today’s hike starts with approximately one hours walk along the glacial lake Gjende with its distinct green waters, through lush vegetation at the foot of the steep mountain face. Then we leave the main path and follow the historic tracks of the famous reindeer hunter Jo Gjende. This is one of the places he went to hunt reindeer, a really steep route leading straight up to the famous Besseggen ridge, which we also get to hike as a bonus on the return.
5-6 hours, 4 boots

Friday: Departure after a delicious breakfast.

Stages: You start around 9.30 am and get back to the hotel around 5 pm.
You do not have to participate on all the hikes, you decide for yourself.
Fitnesslevel: You should be average fit, and be used to take medium to long walks in the mountains. There are a lot of steep climbs on these hikes.
Equipment:
You need mountain boots and normal mountain gear: water and windproofs, extra set of clothes etc.
